7-13 Bridge Street, Horncastle sold to local charity

Heritage Lincolnshire has recently sold the historic properties at 7-13 Bridge Street to the Lincolnshire Community Foundation, a local charity currently based in Sleaford.

The repair and conversion of 7-13 Bridge Street, a complex of Grade II listed buildings, was completed in 2006, and the Lincolnshire Community Foundation has recently purchased the properties from the Trust.

Liz Bates, Historic Buildings Manager for the Heritage Trust said: "We are delighted that the buildings will soon be in use after their successful repair to a very high standard. We are also confident that the Lincolnshire Community Foundation will ensure that the buildings remain accessible to the local community and the wider public and that they will be well maintained."

The Foundation will run a wide range of community activities, including the Sir Joseph Banks Society (dedicated to Lincolnshire's world renowned 18th century patron of the arts and sciences, and Captain Cook's sponsor), the Community Bank (making grants to people in need) and various community businesses.

"Not only will we help to preserve an historic landmark, but we're making the building live and breathe, injecting life and vigour into the local community." Gordon Hunter, Foundation Director.

The project was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the European Regional Development Fund, with support from East Lindsey District Council and the Architectural Heritage Fund.
