In 2004, the buildings were close to collapse, and without this considerable investment, an important part of the heritage of Horncastle would have been lost forever. The properties are predominantly 18th century in origin and were adapted and renewed over the centuries. The buildings have adopted a unique character, and they have made an important contribution to the townscape of Horncastle for almost 300 years.
The aim of Heritage Lincolnshire was to restore these buildings to a high standard of repair, using traditional building materials and techniques and employing local craftsmen. The original historic structure and features were conserved where possible and the scheme was carefully designed by architect Mary Anderson to preserve the unique character of the buildings, while adapting them for modern use. January 2006 The buildings will be open to all from 10am-3pm on Saturday 18th March. There will be tours of the building at 10am, 11.30am and 2pm. Places on the tours are limited and you will need to contact Heritage Lincolnshire on 01529 461499 to book your place.
