A great start to the year for Heritage Lincolnshire!

The Lincolnshire Heritage at Risk Project receives a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for £304,300....

Heritage Lincolnshire is celebrating a fantastic start to the new year after the Heritage Lottery Fund confirmed a grant for this 3 year project beginning in January 2010.

Over 500 local people are expected to get involved in the scheme as volunteers. They will be trained to survey the survival and condition of historic sites across Lincolnshire and will compile an 'at risk' register, giving an unprecedented level of information about the condition of Lincolnshire's historic buildings, archaeology and landscapes.

The project aims to generate information on 6,800 heritage assets and the results of the survey will be entered into the Lincolnshire Heritage at Risk website. Heritage Lincolnshire will also work with project partners, including English Heritage, Lincolnshire County Council and others to offer information to owners of heritage assets, such as listed buildings, and advice on preserving their property.

Young people will also have the chance to get involved. College students will be invited to take part in the full surveys and youth clubs will carry out mini projects on their local area.

Des Gallagher, acting Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund said, "This is a truly innovative project that will offer huge benefits for Lincolnshire's heritage. At the Heritage Lottery Fund we believe that everyone should have the chance to identify, look after and enjoy their heritage. This project will mean volunteers across Lincolnshire will be able to learn new skills, and take an active part in the conservation of our shared heritage."

Liz Bates, Historic Buildings Manager for Heritage Lincolnshire added, "We are thrilled that the Heritage Lottery Fund is supporting this project and we are looking forward to launching the scheme in the spring."

Thanks are due to other project partners (listed below) and the volunteers recruited so far who have completed over 500 surveys since summer 2009. All have contributed to the success of the project so far and we look forward to working with them over the next few years.
