J B Whitwell's volume in the History of Lincolnshire series remains the standard work on Roman Lincolnshire, even though published some 40 years ago. The revised edition of 1992 included a 24-page introduction summarising discoveries between 1970 and 1990, but remains otherwise unchanged. In the absence of a completely revised edition, this book offers a further update on significant recent discoveries and research.
