Little remains of the once famous willow growing and basket making of this region. This study covers the two historical counties of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire and puts on record the willow growers and basket makers who for centuries had their pride and skills woven in willow.

The author began the study over thirty years ago with a project - "to record a local traditional craftsman". The products look simply made, but the craft required a long apprenticeship and many years of experience to turn raw willow rod into a functional container often combining strength with beauty.

The book is dedicated to Harry Summers of Sutton on Trent, who inspired the research for the publication.
